For all our J1 Program Host Companies, they are required to provide proof of Worker’s Compensation Insurance policy. If employee is hurt on the job, his/her medical expense are covered under Worker’s Comp policy. ALL employers have a process in place for reporting injuries sustained on the job.
Some employers are not required to have WC policy (small businesses). In those instances, we confirm with employers they will provide coverage of all medical expenses and require a written and signed confirmation on a company letterhead.
Hollard Travel (Insurance all our exchange visitors have) will not cover medical claim for injuries sustained on the job.
If you are injured at work, please contact your company's HR department and file a claim with them. If you have issues with this you can submit a support ticket in the portal and your sponsor will assist you.
General Workers Compensation Information
Workers’ compensation (often called workers’ comp) is an insurance program that provides medical coverage and wage replacement to employees who are injured or become ill as a direct result of their job.
In plain terms
If someone is hurt while doing their work, workers’ compensation helps pay for:
- Medical treatment related to the injury
- Partial wage replacement if they can’t work for a period of time
- In some cases, rehabilitation costs or compensation for long‑term disability
In exchange, employees generally do not sue their employer for the injury — it’s a no‑fault system.
